Robots around the house

Household robots that actually do a job

Forget the sci-fi butler. The household robots worth buying today each do one chore well. Here are the ones you can actually buy, and the much-hyped ones you can’t.

Prices & specs checked Oct 23, 2026

The most useful home robots are specialists. A self-cleaning litter box, a window-cleaning robot or a rolling pet camera each solves one daily annoyance. Below are our picks with makers’ prices. For floors, lawns, pools and humanoids, our sister guides go deeper: Which RoboVac, RoboMower Picker, PoolBot Guide and Pick Humanoid.

Our household picks

We haven’t lab-tested these. They are chosen from the makers’ published specs and what each one is built for, so you can match a model to your situation.

Home robots you can’t buy (yet)

  • Amazon Astro is still invite-only for consumers.
  • Samsung Ballie, the rolling projector robot shown at several CES shows, has had its consumer launch shelved indefinitely.[5]
  • Household humanoids: 1X NEO is on pre-order. See Pick Humanoid for its status.

Cameras, microphones and privacy

Many home robots carry cameras and microphones. Before buying, check whether video is stored in the cloud or on the device, whether you can disable recording, and how long the maker supports security updates. Put roaming cameras in privacy mode when you’re home.

Introducing robots to pets

Introduce robots slowly. Run the Litter-Robot in manual mode at first so cats get used to the sound, keep a familiar box nearby during the transition, and start roaming cameras at low speed around nervous dogs.
